What Did Jesus Do? |

Jesus’ life was threatened by those who attended his church. He was rejected by his neighbors, friends and family. Luke 4: 28-29 “And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him headlong. So, after Jesus announces who He really is and He is criticized by his close associates, His life is threatened by those same people. Sometimes, I feel very threatened when I am hurt by those I know best. When feeling deep personal pain (especially when I feel I don’t deserve it), I can remember that I am in the best company. Jesus did not deserve to be treated unjustly. Yet, He was. When I put this perspective on my pains, it helps me to bear them with patience and to look for what I can learn from my pain. | By Lorri on Sunday, March 14, 2010 7:01:22 PM
Jesus told those who criticized him what he thought even though they were angry with him. Luke 4:22-27 “…And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? And Jesus said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. And he said, Verily I say unto you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the last days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.” Here He is sharing with His neighbors and family the truth about who He is. They can’t believe it so, they minimize and criticize | By Lorri on Sunday, February 28, 2010 8:02:30 PM
Jesus was well spoken. He used gracious words. Luke 4: 22 “And all bare him witness and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.” We live in a time of relaxed standards. We are often careless with our words. Our popular culture includes all manner of profane speech. There are even popular movements embracing incorrect grammar. When we follow Jesus’ example we will be careful with our words. We will use words that are correct and have grace. We will avoid profanity and use language to the best of our ability. We might even go so far as to try to improve our language skills. |
