Jesus attended a religious feast. John 5:1 “After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.” Following Jesus requires action on our part. Here Jesus is setting the example of participating in the requirements and celebrations of His religion. I can follow Jesus doing the same.

Jesus ate with publicans and sinners. Luke 5:27-32 “And after these things He went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him. Follow me. And Levi made Him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and others that sat down with them. But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against His disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (also Mark 2:13-17 and Matthew 9:9–13) Publicans (tax collectors and in Jesus’ day they were allowed to keep all they could extract beyond the amount the government required.) and sinners were the outcasts of the day. Jesus did not judge people by their situations but by their hearts. I can be like Jesus when I get to know people instead of snapping to judgment PermaLinkRead More » | By Lorri on Sunday, October 03, 2010 8:56:53 PM
Jesus perceived other’s thoughts. Luke 5:22 “But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?” Although I do not have Jesus’ power of perception, I can follow His example when I make the effort to understand another’s point of view. In this example, Jesus shows us what to do; ask for information.
